Save Charles Street Milford Haven Bus Shelter

Save Charles Street Milford Haven Bus Shelter
The Issue
The bus shelter on the Market Square of Charles Street in Milford Haven is a well-used facility, relied on by many local people using public transport. It is positioned in a particularly exposed area, at the end of a high street which is notoriously extremely windy and open to the elements. The bus shelter provides some protection from the gales and rain which regularly blow in from the Haven.
More than a year ago, the shelter was vandalised. Panes of perspex were broken, and left in a dangerous condition. The damage was reported, and immediate action was taken: the broken perspex was removed, and measurements taken for its replacement. However, no repairs were ever made, and the shabby state of the shelter attracted further acts of vandalism, as is so often the case. Pembrokeshire County Council have stated that the out-dated shelter cannot be repaired, as replacement parts are no longer available. It has also been decided that the cost of replacing the shelter - around £2,700 - would not be acceptable, on the grounds that further acts of vandalism could occur. It has therefore been decided to simply remove the bus shelter altogether: a plan which was voted on and approved by the Milford Town Council.
The purpose of this petition is to raise awareness of the imminent loss of a vital public facility, which provides shelter and seating for many people on a daily basis. Now is the time to let PCC and MHTC councillors aware that this shelter is much needed, and will be missed by all who use it, especially throughout the long periods of inclement weather ahead of us. If you think this is a facility worth saving, please sign the petition, and share with as many people as you possibly can. Your opinion CAN make a difference!
