Save Pembroke! Say NO to the Chinese Embassy!

The Issue

Residents of Pembroke are kindly asking for this application / proposal to be reviewed and reconsidered as this should NOT go ahead for several reasons, including the following:

1. Protected flora and fauna in the area (including Hedgehog, Scilla Sicula, Bees, Birds and Aleppo Pines).

NB: As stated by the Environment & Resources Authority, the proposed development site lies circa. 280 metres from a Special Area of Conservation, which is protected under the Flora, Fauna and Natural Habitats Regulation.

2. We need our open spaces and SHOULD NOT be fighting for such basic right! Let's not underestimate this importance! Open spaces have a lot of benefits, including decreasing stress. Stress can lead to serious health issues. The physical and mental well being of the people who live around and visitors alike, is of the utmost importance. This area is presently enjoyed by many for walking, playing, picnicking and spending quality time with loved ones.

3. There are a lot of alternative, abandoned places around Malta  where the Chinese Embassy can be relocated to. As the local plan was once revised, this can be revised again and this land should be bought back by the government to be enjoyed by the Maltese residents . Residents would like to see this turned into a beautiful park and for obvious reasons.

4. Pembroke is already very much congested, adding a Chinese embassy will only increase problems. More so, an embassy close to schools can be a security threat to children, the elderly population of St Patrick's and St Andrew's area, as well as to all the residents of Pembroke.

Thus, we are kindly asking for reconsideration - at the end of the day, WE (the residents), have a right to have a say in this.
