This petition has been created to help foreign rescue animals, adopted within the UK and their adopters to get the care and respect that they deserve and that is given freely to animals born in the UK and their owners. I have worked as a voluntary home checker as part of the wonderful charity The Animal Network Team for many years and have helped many foreign dogs reach the safety and loving homes of their adopters in my area. Sadly several times now I have had adopters contact me with horror stories of the way the animals have been treated and the openly hostile and derisive treatment of themselves from nurses and Vets at the PDSA. I have had fellow home checkers across the UK report this terrible, unprofessional treatment of their adopters too. Dear Jan McLoughlin,

I am writing to you on behalf of the adopters of foreign animals across the UK. Sadly many of us have come across open hostility and derision form members of your veterinary teams, Vets, Nurses and reception staff due to the fact that out animals were not born in the UK. They have accused dogs of being riddled with diseases even though they are fit and healthy and just come for their routine inoculations and have been reprimanded and condescended to for not adopting a dog from the UK that has been, in some cases so awful the adopters have left in tears and some have even panicked over it they have asked the rescues to take the dogs back which means foster homes have had to be found.  Even worse many of us have felt the treatments given to the animals themselves have been far rougher than necessary causing pain and fear in already traumatised, though not aggressive animals and others have been written off it seems before they get in the door as if they don't deserve the veterinary care they have come for. I myself and others agree that these animals need our help because in the countries they are born in they live in constant danger of being bludgeoned and axed to death, tortured for fun as there are no animal cruelty laws to protect them, Even the public pounds are a cesspool of starvation, untreated wound and disease, the only chance these animals have lie with us, adopters, fosterers and volunteers who strive to give them the home, love and safety that every single animal deserves, no matter the country they were born in. 

At the end of the day, no matter how the PDSA staff feel about foreign adoptions, they should still act compassionately and professionally to every animal and their owners that come to them for their help. 

So we ask you Jan McLoughlin as Director General of the PDSA  to take your staff in hand and tell them this treatment of foreign adopters and their beloved animal is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
