Despite the implementation of the Animal Welfare act of 1998, which prohibits the slaughtering and selling of dogs, dog traders, slaughterhouses, and restaurants still operate continuously due to the high demand of dog meat in the market (Pol, 2020). An approximate of 300,000 dogs are being killed in the Philippines each year just to serve as "pulutan" (appetizer) alongside alcohol. This however, I will never understand.

As a dog lover, I could not begin to imagine how some people could stomach having dogs for a meal. Those cute, fuzzy, and smart creatures, sent to slaughterhouses to be man food. Most of which, who are raised to meet such fate, were abused for years. There are plenty of other animals, that could be a source of meat. Those that are legal and originally meant for such purpose, and yet some people still chose to butcher dogs. Really human greed knows no boundaries.

Dogs are very loyal creatures. They were never meant to be butchered or killed. They belong beside man. There were plenty of circumstances wherein dogs had saved human lives. Dogs are even trained to become police dogs and trackers. Dogs are wonderful creatures and it is really a shame that some humans resort to do this to them. Dogs are Man's Bestfriend and this has been proven time and time again. Let us be the bestfriend they deserve in return. Stop Dog Butchering Now!
