I, along with many members of my community, are daily travelers of Harristown Road in Macedonia – a road riddled with potholes, patches, and sheer chaos for drivers. Every day requires a calculated journey to dodge the car-wrecking agents. The repairing attempts by the local authority have only made the situation worse. I’ve watched road after road around this one get fully repaved, when this one has needed it far worse than some of the others, due to it being a main traveled road. 

Harristown Road, which serves as a frequent and crucial route, is in dire need of complete repaving. And hasn’t had an upgrade since the high school was built.  The degrading road condition doesn't only pose a threat to our vehicles but also a potential hazard to our safety, as we swerve and dodge pockets of disruptions from 17-A to the crossroads at least!

Potholes, if left unattended, can get worse over time, leading to costly repairs for motorists. According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), pothole damage cost US drivers approximately $3 billion annually. While patches are a temporary fix, they result in a bumpier and uncomfortable ride which over time, can wreak havoc on a cars' suspension and alignment. 

We urge the local officials of Berkeley County to consider the predicament this presents not only to our comfort but also our wallets. Because I also take great pride in my car and don’t want to have to repair something every time I drive down this road. We beseech you to take concrete measures towards upgrading Harristown Road into a smoother and safer roadway. Invest in our community's safety and peace of mind. 

To all those who use Harristown Road daily (& I know there’s a lot of you because this is a main road to three different schools), or those who are aware of the issue at hand and care about the state of our roads and safety of the residents, please sign this petition for a swift resolution of this persisting problem.
