Cars are falling apart, tires are wearing out prematurely, and even personal health is at stake due to the dreadful state of Caughlin Road. Folk tell tales of losing car parts; others worry about the repeated impact to their bodies, leading to health problems. Our community, which travels this road every day, is directly affected.

It's been acknowledged that Public Works has tried to resolve the issue. Teams have done their best getting the grounds wet, smoothing it out, but consistency proves elusive. Symptoms of a rocky road return within 48 hours of service, showing that these temporary measures are no solution.

Good roads are the backbone of local commerce and everyday convenience. They reduce vehicle operation costs, prevent accidents and reduce traffic congestion. The annual cost to motorists of driving on roads in need of repair, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers, can easily average between $377 to $523 per motorist due to repairs, accidents, and increased fuel consumption.

It's clear that definitive action needs to be taken, not just for the sake of argued inconvenience, but for the overall safety and health of our community. It's time the city consider a long-term solution, one that promises safety and sustainability. We urge the city to pave Caughlin Road.
