Pause the intersection naming until due process is complete

The Issue

Why This Matters

This is not about taking sides. This is about fairness, truth, and respect for the legal process.

Right now, legislation—H.4571—is being considered to permanently name intersection in honor of an individual connected to an incident that is still actively moving through the courts.

That alone should give us pause.

Once something is permanently named, it cannot be undone. It becomes part of our community’s history—a public declaration made before all facts are known and the matter is fully resolved.

But in this case, that is simply not true.

There are still critical facts, circumstances, and perspectives that have not yet been fully examined in a court of law. Moving forward with H.4571 before the legal process is complete risks sending the message that the outcome has already been decided—before all evidence is heard.

That is not justice. That is not fairness.

Our community believes in:

Due process

The right to a fair and impartial legal system
Decisions based on complete and verified facts—not assumptions

This request is not made out of disrespect to anyone. It is made out of respect for truth and the integrity of the judicial process.

We are simply asking for a pause on H.4571.

A pause ensures:

The courts can do their job without outside influence

The full truth can come to light
Any decision made reflects all the facts—not partial information

Acting now, before the case is resolved, risks irreversible harm—not only to those directly involved, but to the credibility of our institutions and the trust within our community.

We are asking our leaders to show restraint, wisdom, and fairness.

Pause H.4571. Let due process be completed. Then, and only then, move forward with full confidence in the truth.
