My name is Vikki Heath and I was working as a Teaching Assistant, in the reception class, where Mrs Brindle (Head Teacher) was doing a Lesson Observation exercise. Some of the children were playing an ipad game with a year 6 boy, who had been removed from his normal class. Is it OFSTED practice to place a disruptive 11 year old boy into a reception class of 4 year olds?
One hour into the observation exercise Mrs Brindle stood up and demanded that I went to her office immediately, where she put her chair directly in front of my chair and proceeded to shout at me face to face, (Joanna Robinson working in the school office some distance away thought that Mrs Brindle was shouting at a pupil and not a member of staff). She accused me of allowing the children to play an unsuitable game, ‘Temple Run,’ which she said contained swearing and of me breaking all the E-safety rules and that I should be punished and reported to the Governors regarding my place at St Thomas’. The threat, but mostly her shouting and open hostility toward me, obviously upset me badly. Mrs Brindle then ordered me to go and get a cup of tea and sort myself out. ‘Temple Run’ is a game that has been downloaded into every laptop in the School; therefore, I had done nothing wrong and I cannot understand why she picked on me!
The incident in Mrs Brindle’s office resulted in causing intense panic attacks so much so that my doctor ordered me to take time off; a two week sick note was issued.
A week after coming back, my little boy was taken poorly, forcing me to take a week off; I rang in daily to let Mrs Brindle know my circumstances. When I arrived back she asked me to go to her office, instead of it being a private meeting she left the door open so that Mrs Tina Christmas (Business Manager) could hear! Again it was very threatening, embarrassing and humiliating public meeting were Mrs Brindle said she had hand posted a letter, which I did not receive when I asked for a copy she refused, saying it was none of my business!
With all of these incidents, relentlessly playing on my mind, causing my anxiety and panic attacks to worsen, resulted in me being sent for counselling. I was so ill that I could not leave the house or look after my little boy.
A few weeks later I tried to return to work. She was all right with me. One of the girls was leaving and arranging a leaving meal; I put a brave face on and went. The next week I was called into Mrs Brindle’s office, she said she was disgusted in a person with anxiety could attend a meal and I should be ashamed of myself and that I am a failure as a mother! Again I left Mrs Brindle’s office in tears.
Even on the sick she would continue to phone me and intimidate me. I was sent to a Stage 1 & 2 meeting where she lied her way through them, belittling me! In December 2014 I decided after a long, long six months of being bullied, to hand my notice in! I was devastated as I loved my job.
A year down the line and Mrs Brindle is still ruining my life. She has lost me various interviews by refusing to give me a reference her words were ‘I don’t deserve one,’ also refusing to let Joanna Robinson give me a reference. She has totally ruined my career. Previous Head Teacher, Mrs Jean Forward, has said that she would give, Vikki Heath, Teaching Assistant, a reference!
