Pass this new bill! The Hawai'i Preservations and Protections Bill!
The Issue
From an outsider's perspective, the islands of Hawai'i from Kauai to Moloka'i are the dream destination for a honeymoon or vacation. But, to the people of Hawai'i, these lands are littered with trash, destruction, and an increasing population of homelessness. These issues are a direct result of tourism, gentrification, and the selling of real estate in Hawai'i and its islands.
Beaches are tarnished and damaged. Tents and bags line the streets and coastlines. The people of Hawai'i are being forced out of the homes that their families built centuries ago. Lands are being stolen, and enough is enough.
With this new bill, changes will occur. Any tourist or new homeowner in Hawai'i will be fined and prosecuted for ill actions taken against the lands of Hawai'i. This includes but is not limited to: violating laws and regulations regarding protected beaches, wildlife reserves, and other native resources. Businesses, resorts, and other means of tourism will not be separate from these efforts in means to truly rebuild Hawai'i and restore it.
Efforts will also be put into effect toward aiding the people of Hawai'i. Native Hawaiians will no longer be forced out of their homes and off their lands for the sake of tourism or otherwise. Efforts will be put into effect to rebuild a better life for the people indigenous to Hawai'i and its islands, including efforts to decrease the percentage of homelessness such as funded shelter programs. Efforts will be made toward the revitalization and rejuvenation of endangered wildlife, ecosystems, and habitats.
The people of Hawai'i and their islands deserve respect and proper care. The United States annexed Hawai'i for its resources, yet refuses to place proper care towards those resources and materials.
I do not have to be indigenous to Hawai'i to understand the issues and problems occurring. They are too important to turn a blind eye to. The people and islands of Hawai'i deserve to be a home, not an attraction.
By signing this petition to push this bill, I can reach out to my representatives, and local and state government, and then reach the national level. Help Hawai'i return to the way it was: beautiful and treasured. Hawai'i has suffered long enough.
Let's pass a bill! Get people to sign! Let's rebuild!
