The Issue

When I first came to this country, I was filled with hope and ambition, eager to embrace the opportunities that lay ahead. However, my excitement soon turned to dismay as I witnessed the harsh realities faced by immigrants every day. I've seen firsthand the racism and violence directed towards them—good, hardworking people just trying to make a better life for themselves and their families. This issue is deeply personal to me, as I've watched friends and neighbors endure discrimination that no human being should ever have to face.

Discrimination against immigrants is not just a series of isolated incidents; it's a pervasive problem that taints the social fabric of our nation. According to a study by Pew Research Center, nearly 9 out of 10 Latinos in the United States worry about deportation or the deportation of someone they know. Harvard's School of Public Health reveals that immigrants face higher levels of discrimination in housing, employment, and healthcare, compared to non-immigrants.

These statistics underscore the urgent need for Congress to pass stronger protections against discrimination towards immigrants. Legislation should focus on closing loopholes in anti-discrimination laws, ensuring equal access to employment, education, and healthcare, and implementing stricter penalties for acts of racial violence and discrimination.

By addressing these issues, we don't just protect immigrants—we strengthen the very ideals of equality and freedom upon which this country was built. We are a nation of immigrants, and our diversity is our strength.

Now is the time for Congress to act. By signing this petition, you are joining a collective voice demanding justice and equality for all, regardless of their country of origin or the language they speak. Let's make America the land of opportunity for everyone once again.
