Pass “Stony’s Law” to protect small dogs in West Hollywood

Pass “Stony’s Law” to protect small dogs in West Hollywood
The Issue
On March 22, my beloved small dog, Stony, was violently attacked in a designated small dog area in West Hollywood by a large dog that exceeded the posted 30-pound limit. The attack was horrifying and unprovoked—Stony was picked up, shaken, and nearly killed. My heart was shattered seeing her endure such pain; she survived, but suffered severe injuries, including a fractured rib, a bruised lung, and multiple puncture wounds. This should not happen to any pet or pet owner.
Despite clear signage indicating that dogs over 30 pounds are not allowed in the small dog area, this critical rule is frequently ignored. Large dogs often enter the small dog designated areas, especially during the 11:00 AM cleaning period when the large dog area is momentarily unattended. This rule is not just a guideline; it's in place to ensure the safety and well-being of our smaller canine friends.
We urgently need to pass "Stony’s Law" to reinforce these regulations and protect small dogs from potential attacks. "Stony's Law" should include measures such as stricter monitoring of park areas, fines for rule violations, and increased community awareness through signage and outreach. Park authorities must be accountable for enforcing these rules, and regular patrols should be conducted to ensure compliance.
Implementing "Stony’s Law" will not only protect our pets but also create a harmonious and safe environment for all dog owners to enjoy the parks without fear. Let us prevent future tragedies and protect our small dogs by urging West Hollywood officials to take immediate action.
Please sign this petition to enhance the safety regulations in our dog parks and ensure a safe haven for our small furry companions.
