Petition updatePass Rules to Protect Louisvillians from Hyper-Scale Data Centers

Metro Louisville has posted a draft Data Center Regulation Ordinance

Just hours after our petition passed the 1,000-signature milestone, Metro Louisville officials posted a draft data-center control ordinance.    There's no doubt that each and every one of you made an impact in this response from the mayor and the Metro Planning Commission.   And now we have a starting place for the conversation about data centers in Louisville that will play out over the next few weeks and months.

Louisville Climate Action Network (LCAN) is reviewing the details of the draft ordinance along with help from the expert attorneys at the Kentucky Resources Council, to determine how effective this draft ordinance will be.  We want to make sure the new rules address our concerns regarding impacts to our electric, water and sewer utility costs as well as potential community impacts on noise, disruptions to water supply, air pollution, fire and safety protection, property setbacks and screening.    As you might expect, there are hundreds of details to consider in the next few weeks as the ordinance moves through the approval process at the Metro Council Planning and Zoning Committee and ultimately a vote before the full Metro Council and final signature from the mayor.

We'll keep you posted here as the process moves forward.   In the meantime, we have to keep up the pressure on the city to do the right thing.    Encourage your friends and neighbors to sign the petition.  If you want to address a comment or concern to your metro council rep, or the mayor, now's the time do so.   You can contact them directly, or leave your comment on the petition page, and it will be delivered to all the decision makers on the council and to the mayor.
