The details:
The federal government has a program meant to financially incentivize employers to hire populations that experience disproportionate barriers to employment - it’s called the Work Opportunity Tax Credit.
And the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) has helped address barriers to employment for summer youth hires, reintegrated felons, and our nation’s veterans.
Military spouses face significant barriers to employment. The Military Spouse Hiring Act (H.R. 2974 / S.3909) would expand the WOTC to include military spouses.
Great news - the legislation is BIPARTISAN with 273 cosponsors in the House of Representatives and 47 cosponsors in the Senate.
But we’re running out of time on the legislative calendar.
If Congress doesn’t act on this legislation before the end of the year - we’ll have to start *all over again* in 2023.
There are no silver bullet solutions - but if this helps get a military spouse hired, that could be one military family we help put food on the table.
