📢 Petition Update: Meila’s Law Has Grown

First, thank you to everyone who has signed, shared, and supported Meila’s Law. Every signature has helped show that protecting children with disabilities matters.

As I’ve continued meeting with families, researching special education law, and preparing for mediation, one thing has become clear:

Meila’s Law has grown into something even bigger than where it started.

This has never been about punishing educators. It has always been about protecting children.

The proposal now focuses on strengthening collaboration between families and schools by advocating for:

❤️ Meaningful parent-teacher communication.

📚 Accountability when educational opportunities are lost.

🛡️ Transparency when concerns are raised.

🤝 Keeping children out of conflicts between adults.

👩‍👧 Exploring ways families can help support their own child when districts are unable to provide consistent one-on-one support, where legally appropriate.

Every child deserves to be seen, heard, included, and given the opportunity to succeed.

If nothing inappropriate occurred, there would be no reason for parents to spend months seeking answers or advocating for change. Meila’s Law exists because families deserve confidence that concerns will be addressed openly, fairly, and with the child’s best interests at the center.

Thank you for believing that every child deserves an education free from unnecessary barriers created by adult conflict.
