Pass Massachusetts Road Safety Bills Now and Stop the Deaths

The Issue

More than 300 people have died on Massachusetts roads in 2025 alone. Every one of those lives mattered. And nearly all of them could have been prevented.

This November, grieving families walked from Cambridge to the State House with one clear message: our roads are not safe, and our lawmakers have waited long enough to act.

Among them were the parents of Sidney Olson, a five-year-old who was struck and killed by a commercial truck while crossing the street in a crosswalk, and the family of Austin Willette, a motorcyclist killed by a distracted driver on a neighborhood road. They are not alone. Yellow roses at the rally represented lives lost, too many, too recently.

The legislature has the tools to prevent more deaths. Two critical bills are on the table for 2026:

  • One to expand the use of automated speed enforcement cameras
  • One to require tougher safety standards for large commercial trucks

Both are supported by data, by advocates, and by the families who know the stakes firsthand. We cannot let another session go by without action.

We are calling on the Massachusetts House and Senate to pass these bills at the start of the 2026 session. No weakening amendments, no political delays, and no excuses. Every month of inaction means more lives put at risk.

Slower speeds save lives. Safer trucks save lives. Families should not have to beg for the right to walk their kids to school without fear.

Sign this petition to tell Massachusetts lawmakers to pass the road safety bills now. We cannot afford to lose anyone else.
