Pass laws for mandatory RICO investigations on police-union shielding

The Issue

In our quest for justice, we ask for no more and no less than equal treatment under the law. Across the United States, we've witnessed a recurring, troubling pattern: when police officers are accused of misconduct, it's the system—designed to protect the institution—that often seems to prevail, rather than protecting the people they are sworn to serve.

Our personal experiences illuminate the need for change. We have witnessed cases languish while officers accused of misconduct escape meaningful consequences. Perjury goes unchallenged in criminal and civil cases. Disciplinary actions are often disregarded, allowing misconduct to continue under the guise of the 'blue shield.' There are systemic issues with overtime and compensation schemes, sometimes even strategically timed retirements or resignations before any charges or investigations can occur. This manipulative practice further shields offending officers from justice.

What we propose is not radical—it's simply equitable. We demand the implementation of mandatory Federal and State RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act) investigations when there is evidence of coordinated police misconduct shielded by union processes. This call for action is necessary to dismantle the barriers to accountability and truth when officers misbehave.

The statistics speak volumes. According to a 2020 report by the National Police Misconduct Reporting Project, over 1,200 cases of alleged police misconduct resulted in criminal charges filed against officers. Yet, far too many incidents slip through the cracks due to systemic shielding—a broken promise of accountability to the communities they serve.

Federal and state governments need to re-evaluate the effectiveness of current oversight and disciplinary mechanisms within police forces. Applying RICO statutes in cases of coordinated misconduct allows for comprehensive investigations and appropriate penalties for individuals and unions that corruptly manipulate the justice system.

By signing this petition, you help us champion a change that ensures all citizens, regardless of their affiliations or occupations, are held to the same legal standards. Let us strive for a justice system that works not just for some of us, but for all.
