Pass Hudson’s Law: Hold Passengers Accountable in Impaired Driving Crashes

Pass Hudson’s Law: Hold Passengers Accountable in Impaired Driving Crashes
The Issue
On July 13, 2025, an impaired driver—nearly four times the legal limit, with alcohol, cocaine, and ecstasy in his system—chose to get behind the wheel, speeding close to 90 miles per hour.
That choice took the lives of my son, Hudson, and my friend, Jen.
But that driver did not act alone.
Someone else had the power to stop it.
Someone else allowed it to happen.
Someone else handed the keys to their car to someone who had no business driving.
And under current law, that person walks away without accountability.
The Problem
Right now, our laws focus almost entirely on the driver.
But in many cases, others are involved:
- Someone hands over the keys
- Someone provides the substances
- Someone encourages the driver to “just go”
- Someone who knows better does nothing
When those choices lead to death, they matter.
And yet, our legal system often treats them as if they don’t.
The Solution: Hudson’s Law
Hudson’s Law would create accountability for anyone who knowingly enables impaired driving that results in serious injury or death, including:
🚗 Vehicle Owners
Those who knowingly allow an impaired person to operate their vehicle
⚖️ Passengers & Others
Those who knowingly enable impaired driving through actions such as:
- Encouraging an impaired person to drive
- Providing alcohol or drugs to the driver
- Handing over keys or facilitating access to the vehicle
This law is not about punishing innocent passengers.
It is about holding accountable those who actively contribute to a deadly decision.
Why This Matters
Impaired driving is not just one bad choice—it is often a chain of decisions. Hudson’s Law recognizes that truth.
If someone has the power to stop impaired driving and chooses not to—or worse, helps it happen—they should share in the responsibility when lives are lost.
Call to Action
We cannot change what happened to Hudson and Jen. But we can change what happens next.
Sign this petition to support Hudson’s Law and help bring accountability, awareness, and change.
Because one decision can take a life—
and those who enable it should not walk away without consequence.
