The statute of limitations to prosecute rape in Oregon is 6 years. This is one of the shortest in the country. My name is Brenda Tracy. In 1998, I was brutally gang-raped by 4 men, 2 of them Oregon State University football players. I promptly reported the attack to police and got a rape kit done. As the victim, I did everything right, but the agenda of Oregon State University, the Attorney General and the DAs office was not the same as mine. I wanted justice and they wanted me to go away. I was misled and misinformed about my case. As a result, and after death threats against my children, I dropped the charges and retreated to a life of shame and silence. Today, I know who failed and it wasn't me. It was the people that were placed in positions of power. People that were supposed to protect and advocate for me, the victim, but instead, they advocated for my rapists and supported them to continue playing football. Because of the statute of limitations, I will never see the justice I deserve, but we can help the next victim. No one should ever go through what I did - Please make sure they don't.
