Nicole Miller started this petition to Pasco County Planning Commission and

The Residents of Pasco County, Florida have been talking for years about how the fast-paced growth of this area is jeopardizing a beautiful place to live.

We need the Planning Commission and County Commissioners to understand that the incessant development and destruction of open, natural lands is not in the best interest of the residents of Pasco County, Florida.  We are already seeing an increase of traffic load which is creating huge road construction projects that are cutting into the natural beauty, and schools coming into over-capacity. It is projected that with current growth we will also see increased crime and groundwater issues due to the high density development projects that are being approved-- unless the Commissioners understand the dire need to cease the development projects.

There are two large development projects planned near the Cypress Creek Preserve in Land o Lakes. One is a development planned by a company based out of Tampa, which plans to develop 1,154 acres along Ehren Cutoff.  This permit is proposing 2,160 dwelling units; 55,000sf of retail; and 100,000sf of office space.  Another permit is requesting 74 acres for a high-density housing development on Parkway Boulevard, near the intersection of Ehren Cutoff. Both of these developments border or are in close proximity to a nature preserve, and require rezoning approval.

These open lands host an array of nature including eagles, deer, sandhill cranes, deer, gopher tortoises, cypress trees, and more.  If these permits are approved, the roads will inevitably need widened to accommodate the traffic load, thus creating a further impact of the natural serenity that this area provides.

These proposals have scheduled public meetings located at 8731 Citizens Drive, New Port Richey, Florida 33525 on 4/20/21 at 1:30pm and 4/22/21 at 1:30pm.  Please check www.pascocountyfl.net for meeting updates, to submit commentary, and to sign up for any meeting that is being held virtually. Please note that you must sign up or submit commentary by 5pm the day prior to the meeting.

All who sign this petition agree to oppose the approval of rezoning and development of the above listed permits.  We demand the Planning Commission and the County Commission permanently cease approval of the above listed developments so that Pasco County can remain a beautiful, safe, and happy place to live.

If the Commissioners approve these projects, we will see what was once a beautiful and serene area forever lost to the development boom. We assert the reminder that not every open land must be filled with urban development for it to be useful or enjoyable, and we urge the Commissioners to consider the generations of the future who will benefit from having Pasco County preserved and cared for in a thoughtful manner.
