A true clown’s job is simple: to make people laugh and to bring happiness to the world, especially in times of trouble. From clown ministries to circus clowns to party clowns to clowns in the theater and the ever commendable clown doctors, this is why we love them! But every Halloween, some people have a tendency to cause mischief and dress in a scary costume and put out scary props and decorations that are a distortion of a clown’s moral character, leaving not only children, but also potentially other men, women, teenagers and senior citizens traumatized.

It is wonderful, however, that Party City distributes clown costumes all year that are goofy and silly so we can goof around, make merry, make people laugh, bring happiness to others and even join the circus! :) This is the positive, fruitful and healthy image of the clown! (Philippians 4:8) Unfortunately, Party City is also responsible for the distribution of other costumes and props that only taint and corrupt a clown’s character into something horrendous and horrifying. This is a negative, fruitless and unhealthy image of the clown. Once evil clown-centered costume and decorations are purchased, people allow a real evil spirit to follow and curse their homes (Ephesians 6:12). With this in mind, we should be very careful with what we choose to do on Halloween (2 Timothy 1:7, 1 Timothy 4:1-2, Proverbs 1:10, 1 John 5:19, 1 Peter 5:8, 1 Corinthians 10:21, 1 John 2:16-17, Ephesians 4:27, 1 Corinthians 10:31) or if we see fit, we can certainly decide to avoid it (Romans 12:2). And if we decide we are actually going to enjoy scarring kids and people for life (Psalm 10:6, Psalm 10:11, Psalm 10:13, Isaiah 5:20-21, Romans 1:32), we take a spear and shove it into Jesus’ side (Matthew 25:40). With this being said: Artists, be creative! Songwriters, be lyrical! Churches, pray together for God’s intervention!

And as for you, Party City: We are real proud of you for selling good, goofy and funny clown costumes year round, so leave them on your shelves! But we: the clowns and people (including your proud patrons) of America and beyond, politely ask you (not as enemies, but as dear friends), for the preservation of a real clown’s duty to bring happiness to children and people, to please withdraw permanently from the production and/or selling of evil/scary clown (including IT-themed) products and refrain from future distribution.
