Postponement of WBCHSE board exams

As we all know, recently Mr Partha Chaterjee (Minister for Education and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs of the Government of West Bengal) has recently stated that the students under the WBCHSE board will have to attend the rest of board examinations to pass. This has caused a lot of chaos and confusion all over the state.

Some of the things which were not taken into consideration are as follows:

  1. Some of the students have already finished their examination before the escalation of the pandemic, and on the other hand, the students who only had one or two exams left to finish have to give the rest of their exams now amidst the raging pandemic.
  2. Understanding that social distancing will be maintained, students might gather before and after the exams.
  3. The mental stress and the state of the students who have already finished their exams are understood but don't the students who haven't yet completed their exams undergo the same mental stress during this Covid-19 pandemic?
  4. Travelling from one place to another just for exams during this pandemic is unacceptable. There will be thousands of students travelling to their schools at the same time which will cause traffic congestion and chaos all over the streets.
  5. Even if we're ordered to give our exams via online methods; you have to consider the fact that most of the students from the village sides do not have access to any electronic devices and therefore will not be all able to give their exams.
  6. Another important point: We know that there aren't many schools in the containment zones, but that doesn't mean that students won't be arriving from the containment zones to give their exams. Our state has 500+ containment zones.

Moreover, if the exams are not cancelled and we do have to go our respected chosen schools to give our exams, and if we end up getting the Coronavirus -- our families will be affected because of this. Will, the government take responsibility for this misfortune?!  *The fatality rate of the virus isn't that high but when the exams start; the spread of the virus is more likely to increase, causing an awful situation.*

And, lastly, even if you choose to pass us by the basis of the pre-board results; then the students who were not able to appear on the pre-board exams will be left out of the process of evaluation. Some students probably had an illness or a misfortune for which they might not have been able to appear on the pre-board exams.

Hence, it is all of our sincere requests to kindly cancel the remaining examination for the Class 12 students. The health of all the students is more important than their academics. However, we cannot ignore the importance of academics and thus request you to assess us via another method and give us the wealth of time and health for future accomplishments. We know our voices are well taken care of, thank you for your time.

We will be waiting to hear your consideration of this petition.
