India Needs An Anti-Food Waste Law

India Needs An Anti-Food Waste Law

The Issue

A Global Food Crisis May Be Less Than A Decade Away- Go over this TED talk to know the background of Hunger and Food waste.

Recently, China launched a 'Clean Plate' campaign against food waste - It comes after Mr Xi highlighted that Covid-19 had "sounded the alarm" on food waste.

Similar to China, many other countries already have an anti-food waste law -

Food waste is a serious problem in India considering the volume of people we have. We can reduce food waste by enforcing laws which impose fine on people who waste food. Example: Fine on people who waste food while ordering at a restaurant. This will force people to order food consciously and not lavishly. These kinds of fines can be implemented in various other places where there is a huge amount of food waste such as a wedding, a party hall, or some public gathering.

It's high time that India needs a law to enforce this habit among the people. To make people aware of how important is to not waste food, there should be strict laws that classify any form of conscious food waste as a crime.

With this petition, I appeal to the Government of India to formulate a law that can potentially save tons of food from getting wasted because of the negligence of the people and take steps to avoid a possible Food Crisis
