The issue
I have witnessed kids yelling slurs at each other, parents verbally abusive towards children, teachers yelling at kids and man handling them. Principles who do not do their job to prevent bullying and physical altercations, brushing off reports and complaints. Calling the yelling strategy. Didn't even look into it. Not enforcing suspension or even expulsion when physical violence happens. Not understanding adhd/autistic students, not helping said students. These kids are suffering because the inattention from admin and teachers alike. Its chaos in some schools, and it can be prevented. There are no consequences.
Parents who are so frustrated, who feel they do not have a voice because they will not be listened to and brushed off. Who feel the need to fight for their children's safety and having no-one to help them and their children.
The good teachers who give their best to provide these kids with a peaceful and safe environment, who get overwhelmed with a school who does not enforce its own policies.
This needs to change, our children's future, their mental and social health, their academics, even their physical wellbeing, their very way of life will be affected by this. They are young and this is their proper introduction to the world, this is what they are learning. Kids are killing themselves, hurting themselves and others. They can do the social media ban, but bullying isn't just online. Its a very real problem. Alot of schools are falling through the cracks, and not doing enough, if anything at all.
There needs to be a better reporting system for parents, there needs to anonymous reporting for teachers. There needs to be better investigation into these schools when reported. The policies need to be reviewed and there needs to be consequences for not enforcing them. There needs to be tougher consequences for teachers who are in turn bullying students, and admin who do not do their jobs.
There's this whole argument that teachers need to do better, that parents need to do better. Its funny because its mandatory for these kids to be at school where parents cant teach their kids, and at home kids aren't the same as they are in school. Schools need to report these things to parents, and parents need to speak up. If parents and teachers actively worked together to make the whole system different, imagine the world of difference it could make to these young impressionable minds. These teacher strikes happening at the moment is the perfect opportunity to be heard, it can make teachers jobs more bearable and give these children the peaceful, caring and enriching environment they need. They are our future, and its already looking bleak.
Speak up! Do something! Let's get this to 50,000 signatures and I'll take it to as many local members as I can reach
