Pardon All Convictions from State and Federal Government for Transformative Individuals

Pardon All Convictions from State and Federal Government for Transformative Individuals
The Issue
As someone who has faced and overcome countless adversities, I have the unfortunate experience of understanding how past convictions can hinder life's opportunities. Despite years of tireless work and civic involvement, my past convictions remain a relentless obstacle in my path to promising employment opportunities. This struggle is not exclusive to me but is a battle fought by millions across the country.
The very notion of a democratic nation is underpinned by the belief in second chances and the power of reformative justice. Unfortunately, this is currently not reflected in the system, as it prevents those with past convictions from integrating back into society successfully. According to the National Institute of Justice, an astounding 76.6% of released prisoners were rearrested within five years, a statistic that indicates a failure to successfully reintegrate convicted individuals into our communities.
If our President Elect, who has had felony charges in the past 3 years, can hold the highest office in the country, why should past convictions – ones from more than 7 years ago in my case – still act as an insurmountable obstacle to employment? There should be a full pardon from the state and federal government for any and all of my convictions, affording everyone the chance to fully contribute to society.
Let's campaign for a better, fairer justice system. A system where our past does not dictate our future. Demand that all convictions are pardoned by the state and federal government for those who have shown significant transformation and implement legislation to ensure this. It's time to right the wrong and restore justice. Please sign this petition today to help correct this societal oversight.
