Keep Papillion La Vista Children in their Neighborhood Schools

The Issue

The administration of the Papillion La Vista School district is proposing a change to the boundaries that determine a student's high school, by moving the line south to Lincoln Road. Any home north of Lincoln Road between 96th & 132nd would switch to attend Papillion La Vista High School. The only existing neighborhood this would affect is North Shore. North Shore is located just North of Hwy 370, between 120th and 132nd Street, by Werner Park. North Shore is just a short 5 minute drive from Papillion LaVista South High School, and a 15 minute drive to Papillion La Vista High School. We ask that the Papillion La Vista School district use tax money in an appropriate manner, which does not include transporting children past one school to drive to another.

The proposal includes an exemption that would split families between the high schools, forcing currently un-enrolled siblings to attend Monarchs while existing enrolled siblings could continue to Titans. This is not acceptable for current tax paying residents. It would also force new neighbors to attend a different high school than their immediate neighbors.

We ask the district to explore other options. There are valid solutions that would not affect existing homes, by changing boundaries only for neighborhoods that have not yet completed. It can, and should, be done to not affect families already paying taxes into the district. For instance, moving the boundary to Lincoln Rd south but only between 96th & 120th is one possible idea.

The full proposal can be seen here http://tinyurl.com/PLCBoundaryProposal

We ask that the school board reject this proposal, keep Papillion La Vista children in their neighborhood schools, and work towards a more viable solution.
