Reform the sexist dress code of BAK MSOA

The Issue

Female students at BAK MSOA feel violated and dehumanized by the very sexist dress code. My body is not to be sexualized as a minor. No matter the circumstances. Dress code seems to be targeted at female students statingU nder the official BAK dress code, they address a simple crop top as “sexually suggestive. This is one of the many unreasonable policies enforced at this school. Not only is it concerning that a child ranging from the ages 11-14s midriff could be potentially distracting, it’s also the fact that this is in a school environment, commonly painted as a safe space. Students have the right to feel comfortable. Our goal is to make school a place where students don’t have to be afraid to express themselves and be able to feel comfortable. Not to limit them and put a label on our femininity. As a female student, I have been warned of dress code for no reason. You couldn’t see my stomach or anything revealing, and I was never told why. This has happened to a number of girls who attend my school, and I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s extremely rare for the male students to “be out of dress code” because it very rarely applies to them. This in itself shows the unfair boundaries of our very own dress code. And it shouldn’t have to be like that.
