Lift the Pit Bull Ordinance- Muscatine County

The Issue

I would like to make a solid effort to have the ban on the Pit Bull Breed in city limits revised and/or lifted for Muscatine County. People are to blame for the negative label the Pit Bulls unfortunately have. The owners of the dogs are the ones we should really be concerned about, the breed themselves are not dangerous. ANY and ALL breeds of dogs (or any animal for that matter) can be dangerous. A person could take an 8lb Chihuahua and teach it to attack anything that comes near it. So with that being said, why discriminate against one specific breed? I want to educate the public so that we can bring our dogs back home. I understand that it is for the safety of the community and the animals that the ban is in place but maybe we could get the city council to focus more on the deed. The person fighting the dog IS the person to blame for the fight. To ensure the community pits are SAFE, I do agree that all Pits should be registered with the city,  have annual vet check ups, live where there is a fenced in yard, always be on a leash when going outside the fence and the owner should have NO animal cruelty background or any type of recorded in which could be related to any sort of animal cruelty. The people who have their dogs to love them as a family member will have no problem following the rules. So I am asking YOU, all of Muscatine County, to help me try and reach an agreement with the city to meet in the middle. YES we should regulate the Pits but NO they should not be banned as family members.
