Tania Bruguera Denounces Violation by Cuban Government Against Artist with a Project for Cuba

The reason why we all went to the Ministry of Culture was precisely to avoid, and end once and for all, with police harassment and State Intelligence Force’s harassment against artists who disagree, artists who have a project for our country, artists who want to contribute with something different from what the official or government institutions establish. In this case, it is even more paradoxical because we are meeting at the request of the Ministry of Culture, but they are not allowing us to meet. We believe that they are using tactics to divide the group, to intimidate people in the group and to take away the wonderful balance that that group has where we have people from one extreme of thought to another. So the goverment is trying  to radicalize the group in the sense that is more convenient for the regime.

La razón por la que fuimos todos al Ministerio de Cultura era precisamente para evitar y terminar de una vez por todas con el acoso policial y el acoso de la Seguridad del Estado a artistas que disienten, artistas que tienen un proyecto de país, artistas que quieren aportar algo que es diferente a lo que quiere aportar la oficialidad o las instituciones del gobierno. En este caso es aun más paradójico porque nosotros estamos reuniéndonos por el pedido del mcult y ellos no nos están dejándonos reunirnos.

 Creemos que son tácticas para dividir el grupo, para intimidar a personas del grupo y para quitarle el balance tan maravilloso que tiene ese grupo donde tenemos gente de un extremo a otro del pensamiento y entonces radicalizar el grupo en el sentido que les convenga más al gobierno.
