Main Eastern Highway -22.17 km from Placheri to Ponkunnam.
The Issue
We, the undersigned would like to inform you about a serious issue which needs your urgent attention.
This complaint is regarding issues in the construction of Main Eastern Highway especially the stretch of 22.17 km from Placheri to Ponkunnam by KSTP. We need to bring your attention of narrow down the important city in this stretch Karickattor location at Google map. https://maps.app.goo.gl/y1sZchLK9a2sqdoX9 and Manimala at https://maps.app.goo.gl/PsjNAxrhuipyih1z7
Also, we failed to understand the reason for the four hairpin curves at muleplavu ,1km far from Manimala city, and each of these curves at a distance of 25 meters. Unfortunately, KSTP engineering failed to find out the proper place to make the bridge in muleplavu. It has been witnessed many small accidents, we are afraid it will be a dangerous zone in near future. https://maps.google.com/?cid=15955318135979800953&entry=gps
Main Eastern Highway is categorized as State Highway - 08 ( SH-08 ) of Kerala. It is the second-longest State Highway of Kerala covering a distance of 153.6 km. The districts it passes through are Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam. The upgrading work of Punalur -Ponkunnam-Thodupuzha stretch is currently under progress as part of the World Bank-funded Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP). At present development of Punalur- Ponukunnam 82 KM distance is divided into Pnokunam- Placheri 22 KM stretch, Placheri - Konni 30 KM stretch, Konni -Punalur 30 Km stretch. The above work was done through the KSTP contracting with Sreedhanya (248.63 core ), EKK infrastructure limited (279 Core ),RDFCVCC (221.04 core) respectively. With respect to this budget, Sreedhanya estimated 11.30 cores per KM development.
The width of this stretch is about 10-14 meters which itself is not developed to its capacity with its available land and quality of parallel MC road SH 01 however, we observed many important cities narrow down further from this limit. Which is going to be a bottleneck in traffic. The main trunk road to Sabarimala, Kerala's Largest Pilgrim Centre starts from Main Eastern Highway near Pathanamthitta. It is also the shortest route to the Kerala State Capital Thiruvananthapuram from Kumali and other major townships of Idukki district Like Munnar, Kattappana, Thodupuzha, Moolamattam, Nedumkandam etc
We, therefore, request you to kindly take necessary action to mend the ways so that people of the area have good traffic clean roads.
in solidarity,
