Send 5 Neglected Circus Elephants to the Wildlife SOS Rescue Center
The Issue
Five neglected circus elephants in India need your help! Together, we can help them retire, rest and heal.
Several recent news articles have highlighted the plight of the five female circus elephants, who have been suffering since June, when they were first shackled at Fun Fort, a former amusement park in Mandya. These elephants – reportedly named Chaya, Chanchal, Kumari, Roopa and Lakshmi - belong to the Gemini Circus, which was de-recognized by the Animal Welfare Board of India after failing an inspection.
Veterinary inspection of these elephants has shown them to be in very poor condition, and in immediate need of intervention. In addition, their current living conditions do not provide for adequate food, water, or exercise. They have been in this very same spot since June, standing in their own excrement. While their future is being deliberated by humans, these elephants are deteriorating day by day.
Wildlife SOS has formally offered to take them into our rescue program, and to house them with the Herd of Hope at the Elephant Conservation & Care Center in Mathura, but we need your help.
Please join us in requesting that the owner of Gemini Circus use whatever influence he has to request that these elephants be released into our care.
There is no time to lose. Please sign and share today! Thank you!
