As a long-standing resident of Washington, a business owner, and a cannabis advocate, I have witnessed the positive impact that safe, legal, regulated cannabis dispensaries can bring to our communities. Unfortunately, Monroe currently has a moratorium banning licensed cannabis adult use retail dispensaries. This ban prevents adults in Monroe from having safe and convenient access to tested cannabis.

Cannabis is not just for recreational use; it also has health and wellness benefits such as helping to alleviate chronic pain and reduce inflammation. Moreover, allowing licensed dispensaries to operate will boost local economy through tax revenue and job creation.

The state of Washington legalized marijuana for recreational use back in 2012 with Initiative 502 (I-502). It's time for Monroe to align with the state law and allow responsible adults access to this legal product in a controlled environment.
