Overturn LTA's Ban on Bicycles and Non-Motorised Personal Mobility Devices

The Issue

I, along with a diverse group of responsible bicycle users and personal mobility device (PMD) operators, am severely affected by the recent decision of the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to ban bicycles and non-motorised PMDs. As responsible citizens, we strictly adhere to safety regulations and yet, we are now indiscreetly sidelined due to the act of a few irresponsible users.

According to the Active Mobility Advisory Panel, with the proper guidelines and enforcement in place, the total number of bicycle and PMD related accidents has greatly decreased from 228 in 2017 to 183 in 2019 (source: LTA annual report). Bicycles and non-motorised PMDs are crucial for countless people who depend on them for affordable and efficient daily transportation. They are also instrumental in promoting a greener and more sustainable urban lifestyle.

Banning bicycles and non-motorised PMDs altogether is akin to punishing the civil majority for the crimes of a few. A more fair and balanced approach can be to implement stricter penalties and improve regulatory enforcement, targeting only the irresponsible users.

We urge LTA to reconsider its decision and work towards a solution which both addresses public safety concerns and supports the lawful and responsible users of bicycles and non-motorised PMDs. Please, sign this petition and help us regain our right to ride.

It would make matters worse for people who need bicycles for daily transport and fatalities would rise causing even more manpower problems in Singapore.

Obesity rate can shoot up and it's not the worst part, carbon emissions are also the problem, you must amend this rule LTA, you do not want climate change affecting Singapore don't you?
