Personal Rights and Natural Rights might be considered one and the same or interchangeably used for the same meaning. However, Personal Rights actually derive from the concept of Natural Rights. Personal Rights are the legal manifestation of Natural Rights. Personal Rights in context, are not permanent, but subject to change outside of the premises of a composed list below under “What Are Personal Rights?”

What are Natural Rights?

Natural Rights are best described and considered as inherent to all human beings by way of their existence. It’s a universal understanding that all people have natural rights simply because they exist, regardless of any legal system. Natural Rights aren’t dependent on laws and often specified as the right to life, liberty, and property.

What are Personal Rights?

Personal Rights are best described as a legal or moral entitlement that a person has to something, such as a power, privilege, or protection. Personal rights are based on a person's status as an individual being.

Examples of Personal Rights are: Freedom of speech, right to own property, right to privacy, freedom of movement, and reputation and honor. Some personal rights are absolute, meaning they cannot be taken away, while others are conditional. Violating a personal right is considered wrong and can be punished by the law.

Why is it important to understand Personal Rights and Natural Rights?

We need to understand this with great clarity because the agenda behind amendment 3 was not a breach of personal rights, but natural rights. Amendment 3 is giving women personal rights by way of constitutional protection to terminate life at any given stage of gestation in a pregnancy. Amendment 3 has granted personal preferences by law to some (women) while stripping away even the thought of others (babies) being considered a human. Why? If a baby is not considered a human being, they have absolutely no rights. Dehumanizing babies gives weight to the agenda that babies are “just a clump of cells” which desensitizes society, normalizes murder, and neutralizes any argument that should arise against this train of thought.

What is Value and Why Is It Important?

The definition of the word “value” was first recorded in 1275 in Middle English, from Old French as a noun. It was defined as “to be of worth; to be strong, be well, and be of worth.” Every life is of value. Hard to value a life (baby) if you don’t consider them a human being. If we as a society can decide when someone’s value begins and ends, then what is stopping us from escalating this agenda to the point of passing constitutional protection to terminating lives of the elderly? Mentally handicapped? The disabled? The fight for life in overturning Amendment 3 humanizes babies. It humanizes all life. By defining human life in the framework of value, it gives an irrevocable hope and worth to all; to the most vulnerable amongst us. It gives them back what was already theres, Natural Rights to life, liberty, and property. If liberty and justice is truly for all, then Personal Rights should not be gained by the silencing, harming, and stripping away of Natural Rights from others. By definition, those are not rights. Based on the underlying motive through Amendment 3, preference outweighs Natural Rights.
