Overturn Alex Belfield conviction in public interest
Overturn Alex Belfield conviction in public interest
Why this petition matters
The case brought against Alex Belfield by two state organisations - BBC and Notts Police - is a step too far by the state. Evidence was allowed in both hearsay and by referring to evidence (eg 5000 emails) without producing as actual evidence (only 29 emails in evidence). This case fails CPS criteria by a mile as well as both BBC and police codes of conduct. It was a conspiracy (more than one party acting together) to transgress human rights. We the people are betrayed by this case and the passing of the Act in such vague yet sweeping scope compared to our rights as citizens to hold and express opinion. The Court in this case accepted Mr Belfield to be a journalist which should allow him greater freedom as recognised Internationally. If this verdict (and current law) were to stand then those journalists hounding our Prime Minister out of office would have also broken this law and should be arrested and charged. That they are not proves Regina, the state, to have acted against the interests of the free and democratic rights of the citizens of the UK to whom Pariament and the Justice system are beholding.
