Outlaw Surge/Dynamic Pricing in Australia

Outlaw Surge/Dynamic Pricing in Australia
The issue
As an Australian citizen, I have personally experienced the impact of surge and dynamic pricing on my cost of living. Whether it's transport, accommodation or travel, these pricing strategies affect every Australian. This is not about seasonal pricing which aligns with our Consumer law; this is about a predatory practice that needs to be addressed.
Surge/dynamic pricing amounts to price gouging. It's a system where businesses increase prices based on demand or other factors, often without clear communication to consumers. People deserve transparency and fairness when it comes to the cost of goods and services they need.
This practice affects all Australians but hits low-income households particularly hard. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, lower-income households spend a higher proportion of their income on essentials like housing and transportation - areas where surge/dynamic pricing is prevalent (ABS Household Expenditure Survey 2015-16).
We need our government, politicians and the ACCC (Australian Competition & Consumer Commission) to step in and outlaw this inflationary practice. By doing so we can reduce the cost of living for every Australian by ensuring that advertised prices are what consumers actually pay at checkout.
Join me in calling for an end to surge/dynamic pricing in Australia – because everyone deserves fair prices for essential goods and services. Please sign this petition today!
