The Trump-backed Insurrection of January 6th, 2021 was the most destructive event in America's history next to the civil war. Yet despite the threat it still represents to our democracy, many today deny that it ever happened. They say it was only a "riot", or try to downplay the severity of what was attempted that day. 

Those who deny the facts of the January 6th Insurrection do so for malicious reasons. They are attempting to rewrite history and absolve the offenders, so that they can escape both criticism and justice. We must not allow this to happen. We must never forget the truth, and we must not allow the apologists to have a public platform.

Therefore, I am calling on Congress and state  Governors to enact legislation which will make illegal the public denial of the January 6th Insurrection, in much the same way Holocaust denial is illegal in many countries, including (soon) Canada. 

We must not fail to act, lest future generations are taught a false version of the horrors of that most fateful day.
