Oust Nancy Mace from Congress
The Issue
I am an Indian-born US citizen who has spent virtually my entire life in the United States. My journey to this country began just three months after I was born, and I officially became a US citizen at the age of nine, alongside my parents. America is the only home I know, and English, with its distinct American accent, is my mother tongue. It is the language I dream in, the language I use to express my thoughts, and the language of my heart.
However, recent proposals by Congresswoman Nancy Mace threaten to unravel the foundational fabric of my identity as an American. Her suggestion that only natural-born US citizens should have the right to serve in any branches of government—from governor to senator to representative—is deeply troubling. Such a policy would unequivocally place those of us who were not born in the United States, but who have lived and breathed this country’s ideals, into the category of second-class citizens.
This proposal is not only discriminatory but also runs counter to the principles of equality and opportunity that the United States prides itself on. America’s strength lies in its diversity, drawn from a tapestry of cultures and experiences from around the world. To diminish this by excluding committed and qualified individuals who were not born on American soil is both short-sighted and unjust.
The contributions of immigrants and naturalized citizens have historically propelled the United States towards progress and innovation. Many have come to call this land home, contributing richly to its cultural and political landscapes. Curtailing our right to serve in government based solely on the circumstances of our birth undermines the very core of democracy.
The proposal espoused by Nancy Mace impacts my community and me directly, echoing a past where people of certain backgrounds had to fight for basic rights and recognition. It's a step backward in the journey towards a fair and inclusive society.
I urge my fellow Americans to take a stand for inclusivity and equality. Sign this petition to demand that those in power, like Nancy Mace, understand that diversity and equal opportunity are not just American values—they are imperatives for a just society.
Join me in safeguarding the American Dream for all its citizens, not just a select few. Sign this petition and help affirm that America’s government can represent the best of who we are, without excluding those who have earned their place in this great nation. Together, let's champion a future where every citizen, regardless of their birthplace, has the opportunity to serve and contribute fully. Please sign this petition today.
