Maintain the current school uniform for sixth form or consult students for minor changes

The Issue

This petition is the embodiment of the anger and disappointment shared between Ousedale School students and their parents. With full awareness that these changes would cause upset, Ousedale has chosen to verbalise them just days before the first AS Level and GCSE exams. This is damaging to our education and a selfish act of the school. This therefore forms part of the reason this action was necessary to stop these changes. The changes are not only old fashioned as they enforce gender stereotypes, but also an example of how the freedoms of the students at Ousedale School are being limited to a point that we are no longer able to express ourselves as young adults should. Preparing ourselves for life beyond Ousedale will not be achieved through the school dictating our clothes to us, but the choices, triumphs and mistakes we make on our own; we must find our own identity to progress beyond Ousedale. Not only this but the financial strain that will be placed on the families of students is ridiculous; the demands of the dress code would require the majority of students to purchase new clothes deemed suitable for school and in the case of current year 12 students these clothes would be worn only for 7 months making it an even more wasteful expense. This is simply not fair to ask of students and their families when many of them will have chosen this sixth form for the freedom it provides. We ask you all to sign this petition to support students in maintaining their freedom and preventing the strain on finances at this crucial time in our lives. Below is a link to a letter from the students completely addressing our point of view, if you have time please read:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxVr7eAe6HAHUElDdGFla3ItN28/view?usp=sharing
