OUR REASONABLE DEMANDS TO FGN

The Issue

  1. INTRODUCE A NEW SUBSIDY REGIME THAT WILL REDUCE  CURRENT FUEL PRICES BY AT LEAST 60%
  2. A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT THAT WILL ENSURE ANY FURTHER REDUCTION IN SUBSIDIES MUST BE PUT TO A REFERENDUM AND NOT JUST DECIDED ARBITRARILY BY THOSE IN POWER.

Nigerians are protesting due to the economic hardship and rampant inflation bedeviling the nation. Under a new adjustment program by the IMF, the government haphazardly removed fuel subsidy draining average Nigerians of the little they have.

The subsidy was the only thing the average citizen benefited, because it kept the prices of goods and services especially food items at affordable prices. The removal of the subsidy consequently led to sky high levels of inflation plunging average Nigerians into poverty and the poor into a state of hopelessness under a regime which promised “RENEWED HOPE”

The only real alternative is to re-introduce a significant subsidy on petroleum products and to massively invest and reform the agricultural sector. This will make goods and services cheaper and also reduce food inflation which will positively improve the lives of the poor.

-LET THE POOR BREATHE”
