The Proposed 60‑Car Trailhead Parking Lot on Ferrelltown Parkway, Huntersville, NC (28078)

Residents of Asbury Park and the small private farm bordering the project area are asking Mecklenburg County and the Town of Huntersville, to reconsider the scale and placement of the proposed 60‑car trailhead parking lot planned on Ferrelltown Parkway as part of the South Prong Clarke Creek Greenway and Stream Enhancement project. Our community supports the greenway; the concern is the introduction of an oversized parking lot directly beside homes and farmland.

The proposed parking would be larger than any existing trailhead in Huntersville. Placing a 60‑space lot immediately adjacent to residential backyards and an active grazing farm would create impacts far beyond typical neighborhood trail access.

Community Concerns:
· Loss of privacy, serene quality and neighborhood character
· Impacts to property values and the charm of the community
· Noise from users, vehicles and general trail activity
· Trespassing and safety concerns
· Litter and maintenance issues
· Lighting and nighttime activity behind homes
· Stormwater and environmental impacts

Residents were also surprised by the limited communication surrounding the parking‑lot component of the project. A development of this scale warrants clear, transparent engagement with the neighborhoods most affected.

We respectfully request that Mecklenburg County and the Town of Huntersville, NC:
· Pause the parking‑lot portion of the project
· Reevaluate the location to avoid adjacency to residential yards and farmland
· Consider smaller or decentralized parking options consistent with existing Huntersville trailheads
· Explore commercial or mixed‑use locations better suited for regional trail access
· Communicate revised plans clearly to residents

Our community values recreation, conservation, and responsible planning. We simply ask for a thoughtful review to ensure the greenway can be enjoyed without compromising the character, value, safety, and environmental integrity of the surrounding neighborhood and farm.
