The market town of Oswestry which is located on the England/Wales border, not far from the Welsh border is a sizeable market town in Shropshire with a population of around 17,105. The town really does need it's once important rail link back, the town cannot afford to be cut off from the national rail network for any longer than it has been so far.

Cambrian Heritage Railways have restored the station building in Oswestry, and have an ''ambition'' to reopen the railway line to link up with the main line at Gobowen in the future, but I feel that this will take many years for this to happen, and Oswestry would be better by having a main line connection to connect with the rest of the United Kingdom instead of a preserved heritage railway.

Oswestry was previously on the former Oswestry and Newtown Railway, but the station in the town has been reopened as a heritage railway station. The railway line to the town still exists as a single track railway line, and is gradually being restored by the preservation society.
