As of May 2020, public beaches and small businesses are reopening and we are in the first steps of lifting the quarantine measures. Of course, the pandemic is not over and all safety/social distance precautions should still be followed. 

The reason for creating this petition is to show how many people are upset with the idea of a "drive through" graduation. I was informed by a person at the meeting that I will not name, that around 10 people were selected at random to know about this at a meeting. We are around a month out from graduation and the school is being a little bit too secretive about the plans for our ceremony. Everybody should be given updates. Keeping in mind the disadvantaged, some might not have a means to do this "drive through" graduation. Yes, there are district vans, and ways to provide transportation, but that brings me to the point of classism. Imagine how some kids would feel getting out of a district van or their beat up old car that they're self conscious about in front of BMWs and 2019 model cars.  I've already heard of several people who are not going to be attending the graduation due to this reason. 

The point is, if beaches and places of large gathering are being allowed to open, the school should be able to apply for a permit for a large gathering. I was informed that "the board of health will not allow that" but it makes no sense that other states are holding ceremonies in football fields, socially distanced, and public beaches are allowing hundreds to gather---for free might I add. It seems they are just not fighting hard enough. If there is enough space to social distance in a large outdoor setting, then this option should be greatly considered and fought for. Beaches can be open at no more than 50% capacity, so finding a location large enough to host it wouldn't be that hard--the school was offered the racetrack for example, or the soccer field? There are so many options. Even if the date of the ceremony has to be pushed off for another month, that would still make the experience more enjoyable for the class as a whole. This is our last memory together.
