Donald Whitmer, Jr.

I had to watch this man lose consciousness on camera, only to find out that he later died. I had to hear this man’s daughter yelling for her dad in fear of his safety and well-being, only go find out that those would be their last moments together. I had to watch this man’s life end; only to find out that the officers behind this went completely free.

He was having an episode. He was confused and disoriented.

[Under cause of death, the Medical Examiner wrote, "Agitated delirium and complications due to amphetamine and methamphetamine toxicity."

This man’s family had to suffer, and most likely watched those clips over, and over, and over, and over again. He died on May 21st, 2018.

You can even hear the daughter screaming and crying, just to see if her dad was alive and okay, but he wasn’t responding. On top of his limp body, one of the two officers, Jacob Mathis and Kevin Krukoski, was on Whitmer choking him out and loudly yelling directly into Whitmer’s ear to “relax”. Even after Whitmer was starting to go limp, the policeman would not loosen his hold, despite the audible concern of many shoppers standing around the scene. Even after Whitmer went pale, limp, and wouldn’t respond, the policeman continued to have his strong hold on him, and then went into handcuffing him with the other officer. His C.O.D is labeled out to be disturbia and meth, but this clearly had a major role in how he passed.

Clearly, there was excessive force used, and clearly, it was unnecessarily fatal. Help make these men face the repercussions of their actions, and provide more training for police.

This petition has been made to be sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Hal J. Rose (Mayor of West Melbourne), and Brevard-Seminole State Attorney Phil Archer.

This is police brutality.

This is injustice.
