Save Champions at Orland Park D135
The Issue
Champions has been serving parents of Orland Park School District 135 with K-6 before & after school care programs for 19 years. They have been awarded the prestigious distinction of corporation accreditation by AdvancED, a global leader in advancing excellence in education through accreditation. Champions offers a full curriculum, homework help, healthy snacks, crafts, games, and even themed weeks with activities like square dancing.
On Thursday, March 5th 2020, parents and Champions were notified that Champions' contract would not be renewed for the following school year. No reasoning was given as to why the decision was made, however many in the community assume that the decision was related to this unfortunate, and isolated incident that involved a predatory D135 custodian hired by the district, not an employee of Champions. Meanwhile at a recent school board meeting, the district approved the re-contracting of the American School Bus Company, the same company that employed this school bus driver that assaulted 5 boys. Why is Champions being punished for the actions of a predatory D135 employee, when the school bus company not only had their contract renewed, but they were given a raise on top of it?
Parents were not asked for input before the decision regarding Champions was made. If you are a parent in D135 and disagree with the school board's decision to end the district's 19-year relationship with Champions, please sign this petition to encourage D135 to reconsider. Feel free to include your thoughts as well as your signature.
