The local action sports community started this petition to get lights installed at Orem Skatepark in Orem, Utah. Action sports is always growing and now especially in the warmer weather. As the year goes on it will start to get dark sooner which makes it harder for kids to practice what they love. This is therapy for kids, an escape from negativity in a way. It keeps kids off the streets and gives them a reason to be motivated and gives them a feeling of progression. It’s not safe for kids and people that are beginners and learning, to not have lights at the park. This park is the only skatepark in Orem and has been here for a long time now and we still don’t have lights. We have been requesting for lights since 2014 with still no luck. I have been going to that skatepark since I was 12 and have never seen the city make any sort of move to make this change. Every single tennis court in Orem City has lights but not our skatepark. Provo Skatepark is a smaller park and even they have lights. We the people want this. This will help tremendously with progression and make the park an overall safer place for people of all ages and gender. It will add value to the community. It will be extremely useful to action sports and bring people together from all over Utah. Our community asks the City of Orem to listen and to get lights installed as soon as possible.
