Our current rate of growth in the covid cases in NYC SCHOOLS, is undoubtedly out of control! 

The city is failing to realize the harm that keeping in person learning in session is doing to our students AND teachers! Teachers have to decide every day whether to go to school understanding the high risk of contracting covid and bringing it to their families, or whether to risk losing your job while trying to protect your family. This shouldn’t be a decision teachers have to make!

In the past week alone, over 15,000 new cases were reported among our students and teachers. This number is only expected to grow in the coming weeks if not months. Our student attendance rate is hovering under 75%! The normal is 90%!!

A few contributors factors are, that our schools have TERRIBLE air filtration systems, so to accommodate, teachers are mandated to leave windows open in classrooms, causing it to be very cold in the rooms even sometimes SNOW through the window! There is also little to no social distancing in the school buildings. The current state of our schools is not okay! Suspending students for improperly wearing a mask should not be a normal lifestyle!

WE NEED TO STOP THE SPREAD!

The NYC DOE needs to understand that it is in the best interest and safety for the teachers, staff, and students to shutter the school buildings and offer a remote learning live instruction program. This will keep students and staff in a safer environment!

Students, Teachers, and Families need to come together and put a stop to this! Please sign the petition and share with friends and family! We need to grab attention of our cities government and press.
