St Albans City and District Council (SADC) plan to remove the 2 hours free parking at Westminster Lodge and start charging a flat fee to use the carpark in the evening. These changes would be introduced in April 2023. 

In autumn 2022, the council ran a consultation to gather residents' views on the proposals. They received 791 responses, 100% of which were in opposition to the change. In response to a Freedom of Information Act Request, the Council said: 

"The consultation closed at 23:59 on 06/01/2023. In total we received 791 comments regarding the proposed changes before the deadline. Of these, all opposed the planned change. The number of people opposed to changes is low compared to the number of people who use the car parks."

This petition is to illustrate to the council the widespread nature of the opposition and refute SADC's point that the opposition is only limited to the 791 responses to the consultation.  

The changes would make it more expensive for people wishing to access the leisure centre and Verulamium Park. 

The results of this petition will be shared with local councillors.
