Opposition to the Proposed Reorganisation of Biosciences
Opposition to the Proposed Reorganisation of Biosciences
The Issue
We, the undersigned postgraduate researchers, students, and members of the academic community, oppose the proposed restructuring of the University of Birmingham School of Biosciences that would steer away from the current multi-disciplinary research themes, eliminating support for numerous organismal and ecological research programs and the dedicated staff who lead them.
This proposal risks narrowing the scientific scope of our institution, disrupting postgraduate research projects, and diminishing the quality of supervision and mentorship that current and future students depend on. Such changes would be made without adequately considering the best interests of students or the long-term health of the research community.
We urge university leadership to reconsider this restructuring and to preserve the diversity of expertise, ideas, and mentorship that make our research community strong.
