Opposition to SOTL Pickleball Court Conversion

Opposition to SOTL Pickleball Court Conversion
The Issue
As devoted pickleball players in Sterling on the Lake, our community currently has 6 dedicated pickleball courts with adequate spacing between courts and fencing. The prospect of converting our current setup of six pickleball courts into eight pickleball courts is alarming. Crowded configurations reduce overall safety and diminish the quality of play.
Firstly, increasing the number of courts without expanding the area significantly increases the risk of collisions. With courts packed too closely together, players could easily run into one another or into surrounding fences, raising the potential for injuries. The proposed layout will also lead to increased interference during games. Pickleball generates frequent volleys and errant shots, which require proper buffer zones.
Competitive players would also find their game restricted. With less space to work with, the variety and scope of shots available are dramatically reduced. This diminishes the strategic element of the game and will force neighborhood players to travel for quality play.
Moreover, practical concerns arise with the lack of space for essential amenities like benches. Having areas to rest is crucial, especially during long matches or hot days. Proper seating offers players a chance to recuperate and store their gear, which contributes to a safe and enjoyable experience.
Therefore, rather than cramming more courts into the existing space, we urge the pickleball committee to consider alternative solutions and more closely research the dimensions of standard pickleball courts. One potential change could include expanding the current court surface and rebuilding one side of the fencing.
Please help us maintain the quality of our pickleball games by opposing the current proposed expansion plan. Let's work together for solutions that ensure safety, enhance performance, and maintain high quality for our neighborhood. Sign this petition for the future of pickleball in our community.
