Opposition to Mandatory $65 Monthly Internet Fee for Elauwit Services

Opposition to Mandatory $65 Monthly Internet Fee for Elauwit Services
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents of Cortland on Pike, managed by Cortland (previously The Wellington, managed by Elme Communities), formally object to the newly-imposed mandatory $65 monthly internet service fee. This policy unfairly forces tenants to pay for an internet service provider, Elauwit, that has consistently received negative reviews and is widely regarded as unreliable.
Reasons for Our Collective Opposition:
1. Poor Reputation & Lack of Accreditation
• Elauwit is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB), a strong indication of its failure to meet customer service and quality standards.
• The company holds an abysmal 1.5-star rating on Google, with hundreds of reviews detailing unreliable service, slow speeds, and poor customer support.
2. Unacceptable Service Quality
• Numerous Reddit threads highlight severe customer dissatisfaction, including days-long service outages with no technician response.
• Elauwit’s track record suggests that tenants may be forced to pay for a service that does not meet acceptable standards of reliability or performance.
3. Violation of Consumer Choice
• Forcing tenants to pay for internet through a single provider—especially one with a proven history of poor service—is unfair and limits consumer choice.
• Many residents already have preferred providers that offer better service, making this mandatory charge an unnecessary financial burden.
Our Request:
We demand that Cortland reverse this decision and allow residents to choose their own internet provider instead of imposing a mandatory $65 monthly fee for an unreliable service. We have a right to choose the internet service that fits our needs and personal budgets. To mandate that our personal budget go to an internet service provider we did not choose and does not fit our needs, is to remove freedom to choose.
By signing this petition, we affirm our opposition to this unjust policy and urge management to reconsider its decision in favor of fair and transparent tenant rights.
